Secretary– (Old Business)

  • Shed project on hold until spring. In talking w/ Mrs. Degross it sounds like the shed may not be an immediate need. Instead we need to clean it up and add more mulch. Mike will call about mulch from the city.
  • We will purchase “shot club” t-shirts for successful participants. Quantity will be determined by those that complete it. (Guessing about 20). Design is complete. All is ready, we just need a count and size. Mrs. Shimek will be posting a note for those who participated to send in their sheets along with size shirts by mid October. We will order at the next Dad’s meeting. Relatively low cost shirts (cotton, single color printing)  handed out at during Catholic Schools Week
  • Brandi McColm from the school reached out to see if the “Dad’s Group” will host the 2023 Family Picnic this fall. We said yes and therefore are looking to find a duo to “co-host” representing the group and work with the already in place committee within the school to set it up and put people to work! Items Including… setting up games, prizes, helping coordinate food trucks, etc. Mike Wolf and Matt Arends will be co-hosting in representation of the dads group. They will be meeting shortly and monthly to continue to plan and communicate what is needed back to the group and to the schools “planning committee” for this event.
    • Update: All is ready for the picnic, just to firm up volunteers! Discussion about getting more volunteers. Suggestion to use GroupMe for enhanced communication. Board members needed early and late. Other family members including middle school students seeking service hours can sign up. Candy and six cases water to be picked up by Matt. Ice cream has been paid for.

President- (New Business)

  • General Announcements
    • Current Update –
      • We had 11 Dads meet up at The Pointe (due to the project at the VFW) for our September meeting.
      • The next project is helping with the School Picnic on Friday, October 6th from 5-7 PM. We will be manning the activity stations for one-hour shifts. Sign up to help and also invite other family members to sign up alongside you. For example, middle school-age students can sign up and earn service hours.
      • The students who participated in the Shot Club over the summer will be recognized with a T-shirt purchased by the St Mike’s Dads during Catholic Schools Week.
      • If you have helped out with a project or come to a last Thursday meeting, make sure to pick up your St. Mike’s Dads t-shirt.
      • We will continue to help out throughout the school year with our last Thursday Dads Day. Volunteer to help with lunch and recess. This lines up with our monthly meeting which is on the last Thursday of the month
      • The Board will be meeting to review roles and responsibilities and will report back.
      • Jim Erickson will serve as a liaison between our group and the School Advisory Council to facilitate open communication.
  • We need to resend Virtus instructions
  • New Motions/Projects pre submitted by School.
    • The PTO  reached out to have a couple of Dad’s possibly be “playground supervisors” for the “trunk or treat”. They have not had this previously but they think it would be nice to have.  The group voted NO.
    • Poker/Beer/Bourbon Dabbler - Meeting with school at noon on 9/26 to confirm details. To be hosted mid-November. This could be an annual event and eliminate the Golf Tournament -
      • Update 9/27 - Father Tom does not support this fundraiser, consider this event canceled. This is a no go.
    • The school reached out to install compliant railings at the school entry. It is my personal and professional opinion this is a bad idea, but, do we reach out to the group to see if there is a contractor certified to do this work? We won’t be doing this ourselves.
  • Open Discussion New Motions/Projects from Members
    • Fundraising – General round robin on what we can do to get donations?
      • This is an ongoing conversation.
    • Sounds like we need to get a group to remove 1 more whiteboard?
      • This has been taken care of.
    • Stock is getting low on a couple sizes of “dad’s” t-shirts. Proposal is to order more when we order the shirts for the kids “shot club”. Discuss to make sure it is a worthwhile purchase. The consensus was this is a worthwhile expense.
    • Roles and Responsibilities for Board members. This is a separate discussion to be had.
    • Future “Dad’s Day” … continue to send out sign ups for greeters?
      • Consesu: Yes, continue this throughout the school year.
    • JIm Erickson has brought forth the idea to be the liaison between the Dad’s group and the SAC committee.
      • Jim will serve in this role but will not be on the board of the Dads Group so that his role as liaison is for communication only.
  • Plus/Delta (what are we doing well and what can be improved)
    • Deltas –
      • None
    • Plus –
      • None
  • Closing Statement
    • Motion to adjourn and announce next month’s meeting time and place.
